New Sticky Floor Tile Technique

I wanted to change the look of our apartment bathroom floor since I added the carrara marble sticky floor tiles a few years ago and it was time for an update.

I used FloorPops Peel & Stick Floor Tiles in Canyon and Brownstone and love the warmth and richness they bring to the space.

To make this DIY apartment friendly so you can easily remove the sticky tiles when you move out, I applied tiles in the past using blue tape and a technique that I learned while being a set decorator. But a few months ago someone used my technique on a Tiktok video and many comments on the video suggested that the blue tape would not come off easily since it gets harder to take off over time.

In my experience, I’ve never had a problem removing blue tape from linoleum flooring, even after a few years, but that being said I heard the concerns and wanted to come up with another technique that would be more error proof. So I came up with the idea of using removable sticky vinyl paper. I actually think this is even better then the blue tape method.

The removable vinyl paper covers more area faster and the tack on the paper is even less than blue tape so this should ease any concerns of it not coming off when you move.

Also something to note - no matter what method you use, you will always need to be careful applying it to surfaces that are not linoleum. Concrete and clay tile can have a clear coating and any adhesive could potentially peel that off.

If you are wondering why you have to attach anything to your floor in the first place when applying already “removable” floor tiles, it’s because the floor tiles can leave behind a sticky residue that is a pain to take off. The tack on the removable vinyl paper will not leave as much of a mess and will be easier to clean when you remove.
